North Texas Future Fund call for nominations for those making a difference in literacy in North Texas

The North Texas Future Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to solving critical issues affecting North Texas' growth, is looking for nominations for the second annual North Texas Future Fund Bridge Awards to honor individuals, community organizations and corporations that have made significant contributions to improving literacy in North Texas.

Verizon Donates $65,000 to North Texas Future Fund for Literacy
Donation to Benefit Workplace Literacy for Adults, Families and Employers

David Russell awarded the North Texas Future Fund $65,000 from the Verizon Foundation to support the workplace literacy initiative in North Texas. The grant from the Verizon Foundation will enable the NTFF to effect adult literacy improvement by working with area employers who will lend both onsite training facilities and trainers for workplace literacy instruction. IRVING, Texas - The North Texas Future Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to solving critical issues affecting North Texas' growth, received a grant of $65,000 from the Verizon Foundation to fund the organization's workplace literacy project in cooperation with regional employers from a cross-section of industries and with professional educators from area community colleges. The North Texas Future Fund is a program of the North Texas Commission.

The donation, presented by David Russell, vice president, external affairs for Verizon Communications, will enable the North Texas Future Fund to build needed training capacity and to effect adult literacy improvement by working with cooperating employers who will lend both onsite training facilities and volunteers who will also be educated in literacy training techniques so that those volunteers may assume this initiative at those worksites after establishment. The North Texas Future Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to solving critical issues affecting North Texas' growth, announced the nominees and winners of the inaugural NTFF Bridge Awards. The nominees and winners will be honored at the NTFF Bridge Awards and Recognition Luncheon on April 7, 2009 at 11:15 a.m. at the Renaissance Worthington Hotel in Fort Worth. Erma Johnson Hadley, vice chancellor of Tarrant County College, will serve as the keynote speaker of the luncheon. More > >

NTFF taps literacy advocate as keynote speaker

The NTFF will feature John Corcoran as the luncheon keynote speaker at its 2008 Literacy Summit on Monday, Dec. 15. Corcoran, a well-known literacy advocate, graduated from college, taught high school for 17 years and built a successful real estate business before learning how to read at the age of 48.
